At the February class of Sofia Airport Volunteer Initiative – "Aviation School", children from Sofia city schools met with Mario Bakalov, the pilot of the largest passenger aircraft Airbus A-380.


Sofia Airport with more than 30% increase in passengers in 2017

Last year was record-breaking for Sofia Airport. Passengers served in that period were almost six million and a half (6 490 096), which forms a 30.3% increase on an annual basis.

What is remarkable is the fact that a record increase in passenger traffic was reported for every month of the past year. Terminal 1 had 36% of all passengers and Terminal 2 – 64%.

Traditionally, the strongest months in terms of the number of served passengers were July, August and September, with over 600,000 passengers for each month.


Sofia Airport with new direct flights to Baku

With the beginning of the new year, the first scheduled air sevice connecting the capitals of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan was launched.


Sofia Airport first among European capital city airports

This year, the record number of serviced passengers at Sofia Airport placed it at the top of the ranking of the authoritative international organization ACI EUROPE (Airports Council International Europe). The data was presented personally by organization’s Director General Olivier Jankovec during his working visit to Bulgaria, accompanied by his deputy Morgan Foulkes.


Cell phone charging stations already in use at Sofia Airport

Passengers at Sofia Airport can use for free the new cell phone charging stations. They are located after the security check at both terminals near the departure gates, and at Terminal 1 there is also one in the public zone of Departures hall.

Each station supports charging up to 8 smart devices simultaneously. The stations are placed at the areas where most passengers pass through, with the goal of allowing more people to take advantage of the new service.
