In September this year, Sofia Airport celebrates its 80th anniversary. On this occasion, it announces a competition in 3 categories:


Sofia Airport with electric bus between terminals

As of today, 07.08.2017, fully electric bus will transport passengers between the two Sofia Airport terminals. It replaces the diesel engine bus and remains free of charge for passengers. Besides being environmentally friendly (it does not emit carbon dioxide), its usage will lead to a significant reduction in maintenance costs.

The electric bus has a capacity for 65 passengers, with 26 seats. There are 3 folding seats and a separate wheelchair bay. It has a ramp suitable for senior citizens and passengers with reduced mobility.


Sofia Airport – the fastest growing airport in Europe

Sofia Airport took first place for the fastest growing traffic in the 3-5 million passengers category. The record-breaking 22% increase in passengers in 2016 led to the acknowledgement of Sofia Airport by the world-famous online news service – “” that offers the latest aviation news and analysis. Sofia Airport outperformed another airport with excellent indicators last year – the Polish airport in Krakow.

85% growth in passengers on domestic flights



June is another month for which Sofia Airport reports increased passenger traffic. Over 570 thousand passengers were served, which forms 37,2% year-on-year growth in passenger numbers. Terminal 2 saw 65% of passenger flow, while Terminal 1 was used by the remaining 35% of passengers.
