Sofia Airport reduces its carbon emissions

Sofia Airport is the only Bulgarian airport certified under the ACI Europe* Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme for reducing carbon emissions. Assya Ivanova, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors, received the certificate from ACI Europe Director General Olivier Jankovec at a special ceremony held in Brussels.

Over 500 thousand passengers at Sofia Airport in September

The passengers who passed through Sofia Airport in September were 26% more as compared to last year, and the passengers on international scheduled flights increased by 30%.

The first nine months of the year were also record-breaking for the airport. Passenger numbers were 15% higher compared to the same period last year, or 3,6 million. Terminal 1 saw 43% of all passengers and Terminal 2 – the remaining 57%.

Sofia Airport welcomed the largest passenger aircraft

Airbus А380 landed from Frankfurt at about 13:00 at Sofia Airport under the accompaniment of Bulgarian folklore music. Minister of Transport Ivaylo Moskovski, as well as Sofia Airport’s Board of Directors greeted Lufthansa airline and the guests to the event.

The pilot who landed the giant in Sofia is Bulgarian Mario Bakalov – Senior First Officer. He didn’t hide his excitement to be part of the crew and waved the Bulgarian flag from the cockpit. The first landing of Airbus A380 in Sofia coincided with the Bulgarian Aviation and Air Force Day.

Infrastructure modernization, traffic growth and support of national and social responsibility projects were some of the topics that Mr. Hristo Shterionov, the Executive Director of Sofia Airport, presented before the delegates at the Annual International European and American Partnership on Aviation Business and Investment Conference that was held in Bulgaria.

“Sofia Airport” EAD’s Board of Directors will take part in the International European and American Partnership on Aviation Business and Investment Conference that opens today in Bulgaria.

Sofia Airport’s Executive Director Hristo Shterionov will acquaint the delegates with the infrastructure development, the air traffic growth, as well as with the achievements in the sphere of company’s corporate social responsibility.
