Is it possible to operate flights in rain, snow or fog? Is the meteorological forecast important for aviation safety? The answer to these questions is "Yes". The weather topic was the focus of the January class of the Sofia Airport Aviation School Volunteer Initiative.
Guest lecturers were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elisaveta Peneva from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”and Rosen Penchev from BULATSA. It was interesting for children to learn how aviation meteorologists from around the world communicate in their own special language and exchange information about weather conditions. The pupils also looked at special weather maps and learned that, due to air currents, when you fly from Sofia to London, you will arrive in 3 hours, while from London to Sofia in 2 and a half hours.
The class ended with a tour of our country's largest international airport showing children how the airport operates smoothly, even in fog.
