Sofia Airport welcomes its 5-millionth passenger

If in 2016 Sofia Airport needed just one day to exceed the number of 5 million passengers, in 2017 this is already a fact more than two months before the end of the year. 34-year old Petya Stoyanova arrived on Bulgaria Air flight from Varna.


Sofia Airport Board of Directors welcomed the chosen passenger with a gift voucher for the airport duty free shops and a basket of flowers. From the airline the lucky lady received a gold card for membership in the loyal client programme.


Petya Stoyanova was formally welcomed with folk music and dances performed by children from “Ivan Bogorov” school in Sofia who created festive atmosphere and good mood.


“Today Sofia Airport welcomed its 5-milionth passenger. This is a record achieved for the first time in the history of the Bulgarian airport”, Executive Director Vladimir Rapondzhiev announced. He also added that the excellent results of Sofia Airport were due to the efforts of its employees, the airlines, the increased flight frequencies on different routes, as well as the launch of new routes.


Sofia Airport statistics show that the most preferred travel destinations during the nine months of 2017 are: London (334 406), Frankfurt (130 028) and Munich (129 156). Varna also rates among the top 10 destinations at 7th position (92 907).
