Passengers at Sofia Airport in March 2017 were more than half a million, or 515 857, which forms a 52% increase compared to March 2016.
Passengers on international scheduled flights grew by 53% and passengers on domestic ones – by 60%. The increase in domestic flights is due to the active marketing of promotional tickets by Bulgaria Air, as well as the launch of daily flights to Varna by Wizz Air in the last week of March.
Passengers on charter flights were 46% more compared to last year, which is due to the prolonged winter tourist flights programme thanks to the favourable weather conditions for ski tourism at Bulgarian resorts.
In March the total number of aircraft movements at Sofia Airport was 4 663, which forms an increase of 26% compared to the same month last year. The increase is due mainly to the scheduled international flights that grew by 30%.
In March a total of 1 743 t of cargo and mail shipments were processed at Sofia Airport, which is 11% less than the previous year. That decrease is due to the drop in cargo carried on cargo aircraft, while cargo carried on passenger aircraft increased by 7%.
Sofia Airport Summer Flight Schedule
Sofia Airport Summer Schedule offers convenient flights with 25 airlines to 68 airports in Europe and Middle East. Passengers can choose between more than one air carrier for 20 of the destinations. For passenger convenience 40% of all routes to Sofia Airport are served on a daily basis, some of them with more than one flight per day.
Since the first day of Summer Schedule, the new scheduled flights to the Italian city of Catania on Sicily Island are launched, and in the end of June scheduled flight to the Slovak capital city of Bratislava are to be launched.
As of May, two of the most preferred destinations at Sofia Airport – Amsterdam and Frankfurt can be reached using the services of low-cost carriers.
