This year, the record number of serviced passengers at Sofia Airport placed it at the top of the ranking of the authoritative international organization ACI EUROPE (Airports Council International Europe). The data was presented personally by organization’s Director General Olivier Jankovec during his working visit to Bulgaria, accompanied by his deputy Morgan Foulkes. He congratulated Sofia Airport for the results achieved and expressed his hopes that the investments in the development of infrastructure and services would continue in line with the increasing passenger traffic.
Special emphasis was put on the efforts and good work done by the management of the capital city airport in connection with the forthcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union. The subject of the presidency was among the main focuses of the two-day work meeting attended by Mrs. Asya Ivanova – Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of "Sofia Airport" EAD, Mr. Vladimir Rapondzhiev – Executive Director of the company, Mr. Stanimir Leshev – Director General of the Directorate General “Civil Aviation Administration”, and Mr. Georgi Peev – Director General of the Bulgarian Air Traffic Services Authority.
The topics discussed included issues of global nature about the airport industry. Mr. Jankovec pointed out that the rate of private investment in European Union airports was rising steadily. If private equity participation in airport management and concession was 23% in 2010, it currently stands at 50%, and this upward trend is expected to continue in future.
