Sofia Airport reported a 13% increase in the number of serviced passengers in April 2016. Their total number for the period was 367 696 as compared to 325 790 for the same month last year.
There was an increased of 14,7% in the passengers on scheduled international flights who form 96% of total passenger throughput. Passengers on domestic flights also achieved a 7,7% increase.
Passenger traffic at Terminal 1 marked a significant increase of 29%, while Terminal 2 maintained the levels of April 2015.
During the last month Sofia Airport launched 6 new destinations. Since the beginning of April, scheduled flights are operated to Alicante, Pisa, Oslo/Torp and Hamburg/Lübeck, and since the end of the month there are flights to London/Stansted and Lisbon.
A total of 4 082 arriving and departing aircraft were serviced at Sofia Airport in April 2016, which was 11,7% more than the previous year. Again the most significant increase of 15,3% was recorded by scheduled international flights. A 10,3% increase was reported for domestic flights.
Cargo and mail shipments
In April 2016 a total of 2 173 tonnes of cargo and mail shipments were processed at Sofia Airport – with record-breaking 50,6 % more than the same month in 2015. The increase was due to the larger volumes carried on cargo aircraft, as well as the reported 15,6% increase in scheduled passengers flights.
