November tends to be one of the worst months for air transport but still Sofia Airport reported a total of 263 564 arriving and departing passengers – 4.7 % more than data reported last year.
Passengers on international scheduled flights for the period were 251 140 (+5%), the largest increase in transported passengers, as compared to November 2013, being achieved by Wizz Air, Lufthansa, LOT, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and British Airways.
A total of 9 975 passengers travelled on domestic flights – 5 % less as compared to previous year.
The total number of aircraft movements at Sofia Airport in November 2014 was 3 112 in comparison with 3 104 during last year’s period. Bulgarian carriers generated 29 % of aircraft traffic, while foreign carriers – 71 %.
In the last month a total of 1 588 t of cargo and mail shipments were processed at Sofia Airport, which formed an 11.5 % increase in comparison to November last year.
Since mid December airline flydubai launches scheduled flights from Dubai International Airport to Sofia. Its aircraft will fly twice a week to the Bulgarian capital and will be handled at Terminal 2.
During this winter season the traditional charter flights with ski tourists from United Kingdom will be operated from airlines Thomson Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines, BH Air and English carrier Jet 2 as well.
For the first time this year Sofia Airport will welcome the Israeli airline – Israir. The tourists from Tel Aviv will arrive at Terminal 2 twice a week – on Thursdays and Sundays.
