In February 2015 Sofia Airport experienced growth according to all indicators

 

Passengers

Sofia Airport ended the shortest month of 2015 with a total of 270 622 serviced passengers, which constituted a 4.6 % increase as compared to the same period last year.

Passengers on international scheduled flights achieved a steady growth of 6.3 % totalling to 246 115 for the month – 14 588 more than 2014. The greatest contribution to that achievement was made by several foreign airlines, including Wizz Air (with 12 200 more carried passengers for the month), Turkish Airlines и Qatar Airways, LOT, British Airways, Lufthansa, Aegean Airlines.

3% decrease was reported for passengers on domestic flights. In February the organized tourists on seasonal charter flights were about 2000 less compared to last year.

 

Aircraft movements

Flights to and from Sofia Airport also had a positive tendency. During the second month of the year the number of landing and taking off aircraft was 3 052, which marked a 2.5% increase compared to last year’s period.

96 more aircraft movements were operated on international and domestic routes, while tourist charter flights were 17 less than February 2014.

Business aviation achieved a 32% increase, while cargo flights decreased by 12%.

 

Cargo

5.6% growth on annual basis was reported in cargo and mail shipments. The volume of cargo flow in February 2014 at Sofia Airport was 1 343 t as compared to 1 272 t in the same month last year.

Despite the smaller count of cargo flights, the transported cargo volumes achieved a 16 % increase as compared to February last year, while cargo volumes transported on scheduled passenger flights were 5 % less.

 

On 28 March Sofia Airport’s summer flight schedule comes into force and new destinations will be added to it. As of the beginning of May 2015, the Swiss airline – Swiss International will resume scheduled flights from Sofia to Zurich. Direct flights will be operated to Southern Italy again, but this summer Mistral Air will fly not only to Catania, but to Bari as well.
