A month before the International Aviation and Cosmonautics Day, the educational initiative "Aviation School" met children from a school in Sofia with Bulgarian cosmonaut and researcher Krassimir Stoyanov.
During his lecture, he explained how he preparеd for the Second Soviet-Bulgarian Space Fligh in 1987-1988, shared with children curious facts and stories of the aviation and cosmonautics world and showed them how space food looks like.
After their first "space journey", the children had the opportunity to take a closer look at the biggest Bulgarian airport and learn more about its activities.
At the end of the "training" day, young aviators received from Sofia Airport management certificates of participation in the initiative.
Sofia Airport Volunteer Initiative – "Aviation School" started on November 1, 2017. Once a month, well-known names in the aviation sector tell children from different schools in Sofia in accessible and intriguing language about their professional responsibilities. In this way, the "Aviation School" aims to spark children's imagination and curiosity and to stimulate pupils’ interest in aviation professions.
So far, lecturers of the "Aviation School" have been: pilot Mario Bakalov, aviation accident expert Hristo Hristov, aviation psychologists Desislava Georgieva and Elena Pancheva, as well as the man who made the best pictures from the air – photographer Ognyan Stefanov and others.
