Sofia Airport statistics for January and February maintain the positive tendency with which it ended the previous year. The total number of passengers at both terminals is 641 807, which is 14 % more as compared to the same period last year. Passengers on scheduled international flights increased by 17 % due to the new direct routes launched in the summer last year.
This winter, for the first time, two of the traditional tourist chains – those of English airline Thomas Cook, are operated as scheduled services, and not as charter ones.
Since the beginning of the year 7 045 aircraft landed and took off from Sofia Airport, which is a 10 % increase on annual basis. And again the largest increase – of more than 13 %, was marked by scheduled international flights.
Cargo and mail
The positive tendency also is preserved with respect to the processed airport cargo flow which increased by 12 % with processed 2 974 tonnes for January – February 2016. The increase was due to the larger volumes carried on cargo aircraft ((+22%), while the volumes transported on scheduled passenger lines maintained its last year’s level.
Sofia Airport welcomes the summer flight schedule coming into effect from 27 March 2016 with 4 new direct routes to Alicante, Oslo/Torp, Hamburg/ Lübeck and Birmingham. In April Ryanair launches its scheduled flight programme from Sofia to Pisa and to London/Stansted.
